Amazon.com Review The Barska Blackhawk 60mm spotting scope is a terrific value because it offers very good optical performance in a compact and affordable package. The scope itself features waterproof design, multicoated optics, and a zoom eyepiece with magnification ranging from 20X up to 60X. The accessories include a light weight table-top tripod, a soft caring case, and a durable hard shell case that will allow the rubber armored scope to stand up to a lifetime of use. The Blackhawk 60mm spotting scope uses a multi-coated objective lens and rugged porro-prism design for bright, clear images. At 100 yards, I can clearly focus in on a target, even when I crank the magnification up to the maximum 60X. When I use the scope for wildlife spotting, the sweet spot seems to be about 30X magnification; 30X gives me an ideal combination of sharp images and a wide field of view, perfect for identifying Puffins and Pelicans along the coast. I also like the compact size and light weight of the Blackhawk 60. At only 14 inches long and weighing less than two pounds, the Blackhawk 60 is light enough to use a photo tripod such as the SLIK U-9000 in the field. Like other entry level spotting scopes, the Barska Blackhawk 60 uses an Achromatic objective lens, which means that some false color or blue fringing is noticeable at high power. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the quality and value of the binoculars and spotting scopes imported by Barska the last few years. The Barska Blackhawk 60mm spotting scope simply offers very good optical performance for a very reasonable price. --Jeff Phillips Pros: - Excellent price/performance ratio
- Very good Achromatic optics
- Waterproof design with rubber coating
- Premium hard shell case included
Cons: - Blue fringing noticeable at high power
- Limited eye relief for eyeglass wearers

Excellent optics for the price March 17, 2007 Steve Siringer 29 out of 30 found this review helpful
This scope is worth every penny, I was very concerned buying a "cheaper" spotting scope but after my first range session my nerves are at rest. It's very easy to see the .30 cal holes at 200 yards and light transmission and clarity are very adequate. This scope also comes with 2 carrying cases, a nice added bonus. When comparing this scope to my friends bushnell of the same power this one wins hands down, a definate purchase for someone on a budget and looking to get good quality for limited funds.
Great scope, great package at a great price March 11, 2009 RS 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
I bought this scope to zero in my AR-15 at about 100-yards. It worked well, and I can see my bullet holes up to about 150-yards. Beyond that, I can focus on my target, but struggled to count the number of bullet holes. This scope is great for the $109 price, especially with the extras you don't get with the more expensive brands. And it held up well against my friend's expensive $450 Leupold (that he got without a tripod or hard case). Unfortunately I needed something strong (good up to 300-yards), and returned this scope for the Barska Benchmark 25-125X88 for $15 more.
My advice, pick the magnification power that fits your needs and expectations. Then compare prices before comparing brands.
simply amazing October 27, 2007 Alan G. Jones 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
i was hesitant to buy due to the apparent low price, most top end scopes are $500+
i hummed and hawed for months then decided to buy. this scope is amazing, great zoom function, clear lenses, nice carry bag, the hard sided case is nice too.
only thing for me is the tripod is small for birding, the provided tripod is good on a table or if you are lying down, i already had a full size tripod and the scope works great on it.
i use the mini tripd for my camera so it does not go unused.
use the scope for birding and it zooms in on birds hundreds of yard away.
a definite great buy for me!
We LOVE this spotting scope! July 23, 2007 L. Lonning 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
We've been using it to watch the wildlife out at a pond about 140 yards from the house. Not only can we watch the painted turtles climb up on the turtle log, we can even see dragonflies land! And we never would have been able to watch the kingbirds with binoculars!
The icing on the cake was when we looked at Saturn and Venus a couple of weeks ago. Boy were we surprised when we could see Saturn's rings! Then we looked at Jupiter and could distinguish 3 moons! We LOVE this scope!
Great Price, Great Product January 14, 2008 B. Joynes (TN) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I was needing something for 25 yards to 100 yards, and something I could get past my wife. Well this turned out to be just the ticket. It does have both a hard case as well as a soft case, although not of great quality, the hard case does protect the scope very well. Other people will be able to give you advice about the sharpness view, the lens, and abunch of other specs, but what I needed was a simple scope that was resonable priced, and capable of doing the job. I was not disapointed.
